The new film from director Ilanivel feauturing Vineeth has hero may not have got a cast comprising of popular stars. But it sure has someone in its crew who can elevate a film far beyond its limited horizons using the music and the background scores, of course the talk is about the three time national award winning maestro Ilaiyaraja. He sure is back into some serious business in this film and has churned out songs at his classical best which reminds one of the evergreen Sindubairavi days.
The songs have the typical classical with the Ilaiyaraja stamp in it. It has been given to the most appropriate renderers of classical music of this era. Ilaiyaraja does not miss Yesudas in this album, a apt replacement seems to be have been found in Sreeram Parthasarathy, Ilaiyaraja and Sreeram Parthasarathy combine in Aganthayil and Kalil Uyir songs with ilaiyaraja giving a pleasing start and soothing interludes, along with Sreeram rendering the amazingly refreshing songs not found in this era of music that fails to go beyond the major and minor scales of western music.
Alaiyellam cholavazha is another song which reminds us of the songs picturised on rural life during the 1980`s. Madhu balakrishnan gives the perfect topping for this sweet number. Kalathai Vendra is another song sung by Sreeram parthasarathy with Bhavatharini giving him company, the song with excellent bass patterns is extremely pleasing to hear, Raja`s gift to his daughter.
Overall an album which shows to the world that if music with class and classical music is needed to be composed for films there is no mortal in this world other than Ilaiyaraja to do it.

Dasavataram - Music which dissapoints
It took five years of hard work, sweat and dedication to make a movie which is bound to make every Indian proud and take tamil cinema to a different horizon. Sadly though the musical score that has been done sounds as if it has been done in a jiffy. There has been no thought process that has gone into the songs. When a music director gets an oppurtunity for such a film he must buckle up and give a album that is never heard so far. Ilaiyaraja elevates himself and his music for people liek Mani Ratnam and Bharathiraja, Rehman does miraculous music for Mani Ratnam and Shankar . The crux is that when a larger than life director gives u a chance to compose music for his film you give music that is larger than life too but Himesh sadly though remains the same old Himesh giving tunes that is not any different than the tunes he composes for the many low profile Hindi film which stars people like Emran Hashmi. The songs are heavily inspired or rather borrowed from the many AR Rehman classics and the the only original tune Oh Oh sanam fails to impress. The orchestration instrumentation and the sound quality is amateurish . We are left wondering how such a great thinker like KAmal who chose all this resources for the film in a proper way got the wrong idea of choosing Himesh for the songs part. When here in south there is such raw talent, it was fate that it had to go to someone in the north and that too to some one who did not deserve it. I hope that we can hope to hear better music from someone with a richer talent for Kamal`s next magnum Opus
